This job coordinates the nutritional care of patients. Completes nutritional assessments, prepares nutrition care plans, recommends nutritional therapies, and monitors the effectiveness of nutritional care. Provides nutrition education to promote improved health and complies with regulatory requirements. Conducts and participates in community education, marketing, and public relations efforts. Attends committee meetings as assigned. Participates in in-services and continuing education programs.The Clinical Registered Dietitian is responsible for patient care activities - assesses nutritional needs, develops and implements nutritional care plans and participates in patient/staff education and quality assurance activities. The Clinical Dietitian will work together with the employees of the department to provide optimal food, nutritional and environmental services to the patients, visitors, and staff to ensure the healing and well-being of each individual. The Clinical Registered Dietitian will perform any other related tasks assigned. Meets organizational expectations as defined by the Employee Standards of Performance, hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital's strategic goals. Verbalizes a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and actively participates in improvement initiatives. Screens and assesses patients based on diagnosis, problems and treatment priority system. Performs consults as requested by nursing staff or physicians. Develops and implements care plans based on an assessment of nutritional needs and appropriateness of the patient's age and correlates this with other health care plans. Responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy and education to inpatients and outpatients, teaching individuals and/or classes which include diabetic, cardiac, weight reduction and other classes as necessary. Participates in weekly interdisciplinary patient care conferences on assigned units. Participates in monitoring of quality assurance and improvement activities. Visits patients to explain diet regime and obtain other information regarding food habits and preferences. Interacts with other disciplines to communicate and implement care plans. Records nutritional observations and information pertinent to dietary treatment in patient's medical record. Conducts in-services for Nutritional Services personnel when assigned. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization. Education/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Good communication skills. Able to communiciate with people of all levels of education (elementary school education level to professional staff and physicians). Must show good judgment and reliability. Must be able to calculate tube feeding and TPN requirements. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Bachelor of Science and Nutrition from American Dietetic Association accredited university program. Must be licensed, registered Dietitian or Registry-Eligible. At least six months experience. Licensure/Certification: Licensed, Registered Dietitian or Registry-Eligible.
