The Operating Room Registered Nurse effectively maintains the established Association of Perioperative Nurse Standards of Recommended Practice and guidelines for the care of the surgical patients. The Operating Room Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process, provides nursing care based on recognized professional and legal standards of nursing practice and promotes collaboration with physicians and other disciplines. Major Duties: Meets organizational expectations as defined by the Employee Standards of Performance, hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital's strategic goals. Verbalizes a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and actively participates in improvement initiatives. Assesses/reassess patient's condition based upon observation of patient and interview of patient and/or family, physician's diagnosis and data, diagnostic results, and relevant data from other healthcare providers. Documents all aspects of patient care and records in a timely manner. Provides patients and family members with relevant healthcare education and instructions regarding planned surgical interventions and treatments including pre/post procedure care as appropriate. Coordinates plan of surgical care and delegates responsibilities to appropriate personnel, as well as, accepts delegated responsibility for function as coordinator of that care, on assigned shift. Consistently provides for the continuum of care through communication with all disciplines. Delegates responsibility to appropriate personnel, as well as, accepts delegated responsibility for function such as, but not limited to, charge nurse for unit activities on assigned shift. Accountable for nursing practice to the Chief Nursing Officer or designee in the facility. Responds to internal/external disaster as directed. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization. Required to perform on-call as assigned within established hospital defined parameters. May be required to act as charge nurse. Participates in staff meeting, educational programs, committees, QI activities and mandatory in-services. Unit specific skills checklist and competencies prior to end of 90 day evaluation. Joint Commission readiness and Indicator tracking with department Quality nurse. Education/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Required: Current knowledge of the nursing role and scope of practice as defined by the State of Louisiana Nurse Practice Act and the Louisiana Board of Nursing. Current knowledge of American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics. Knowledge of current trends and demonstration of standards of care. Successful completion of mandatory requirements including unit proficiencies/competencies. Demonstration of effective problem solving, decision-making, interpersonal and teamwork skills. Demonstration of positive customer service. Graduate of an NLN accredited RN program. Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State of Louisiana. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) certification required. Preferred: One year Operating Room experience as circulating nurse and/or one year Med Surg experience. CNOR. Licensure/Certification: Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State of Louisiana. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS). ACLS required within the first six months to one year of employment.
