Job Description
The Charge Nurse II provides management support for the operation of assigned units. Directs human and physical resources to achieve the established budget, productivity, and standard of care in the areas of responsibility. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to ANA Code of Ethics. Adheres to organizational and departmental policies and procedures. The Charge Nurse II is an entry level, management position responsible for patient care delivery, administrative activities and staff development. Represents the Manager/Director in his/her absence. Demonstrates behavior appropriate to a professional role model. Ensures the plan of care is executed and individualized. Prepares staffing schedule and posts same two weeks prior to effective dates. Assists in the performance evaluation of assigned employees. Recommends personnel actions to the Manager in response to specific situations. Assists staff in clinical role when there are staffing needs. Assists in improving and maintaining patient satisfaction. Addresses patient concerns/rounds on patients. Assists in improving and maintaining physician satisfaction. Assists with improving and maintaining employee satisfaction. Assists with recruitment and retention. Identifies and addresses staffing issues. Assists with assuring adequate staffing needs based upon census fluctuations and acuity, meeting operating standards and cost per unit of service. Assists with fiscal responsibility for adhering to operating standards and budgeted cost per unit of service. Assists with planning, implementing and coordinating orientation programs for patient care services staff. Identifies needs and assists with implementing staff development. Identify LOS issues and address. Assists with preparing of staff and services to meet and exceed JCAHO standards. Assists with developing performance improvement processes. Assists with input into budgetary planning. Identify and address supply and equipment needs to assure high quality of care. Act as resource person. Two years experience as charge nurse in the assigned clinical area. Knowledge and experience in the clinical areas of assignment. Knowledge of practice standards for area of expertise. Current, valid nursing license for the state of Louisiana. BLS and ACLS.
