Job Description
In accordance with established procedures, abstracts clinical information from a variety of medical records and assigns appropriate codes to patient records.
EDUCATIONAL AND/OR PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION, LICENSE: Possess credientials of medical record practitioner, either RHIA or (RHIA applicant) or CCS or CCS-P.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of two (2) years experience as coding specialist.
SPECIAL SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS: Basic typing skills. Basic working knowledge of Health Information Management computer applications. Working knowledge of ICD-9-CM, CPT, HCSPCS coding system and APC reimbursement systems.
EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS KNOWLEDGE: Computers and other office equipment as it relates to the job. Safety equipment as it relates to the job.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able sit for long periods of time.
