Byrd Regional Hospital has been serving the residents in Vernon Parish for over 60 years. Byrd Regional Hospital's current building was constructed in 1981 as a replacement for War Memorial Hospital. In 1994, the hospital was purchased by Community Health Systems, Inc., Brentwood, TN. In 2000, the hospital added a new OB/GYN wing and Day Surgery wing. In 2004, the hospital added a new ICU wing, 4th surgery suite and a gastro suite. In 2005, Byrd Regional Hospital opened a new outpatient Diagnostic center. In 2006, Byrd Regional Hospital opened a $9 million dollar expansion with a new ER, Med/Surg wing, Cardiopulmonary Department, Cardiac Cath Lab, Admissions, Front Lobby and Gift Shop. Byrd Regional Hospital has bulit a new $6.4 million Ambulatory Surgery Center. Byrd Regional Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission.

Byrd Regional Hospital is located in West Central Louisiana (50 miles W of Alexandria, LA and 70 miles N of Lake Charles, LA) and serves the parish of Vernon, and parts of Beauregard and Sabine parishes. The area has access to Toledo Bend reservoir, the largest recreational body of water in the South, affording great fishing, boating and water skiing.
